Assistant/Associate Professor – Electrical Engineering Technology – Computer

The School of Engineering Technology at Purdue University invites applications for a tenure-track, full-time appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the area of electrical engineering technology, with areas of competence in computing, Internet of Things (IoT), or audio and video processing. The candidate may collaborate with other faculty in SoET, the Polytechnic and across Purdue University as well as other universities and industry partners, such that success in research is attainable. This person will teach in both our undergraduate and graduate programs and will be expected to be able to teach online. This position will be at the West Lafayette campus.

Teaching Expectations
The Purdue Polytechnic transformation requires faculty with both high technical competence and the ability and desire to teach in active classrooms. We are looking for candidates to teach students in our Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) program. Relevant, recent industrial experience or prior teaching experience are highly desirable.

In addition to teaching and research, the candidate will be expected to aid in curriculum development for the computer engineering technology major or the audio engineering technology major and provide technical depth to the EET program. Particularly, subjects of interest include engineering design methods applied to audio/video and entertainment technology systems, embedded software/hardware computing technologies for IoT, edge computing, neuromorphic computing, AI, high-performance computing, hardware security, digital hardware testing, or system-on-chip technologies. Computer Engineering Technology is new as a major and our majors on robotics, audio, and mechatronics engineering technology rely on it. As the EET program grows at our statewide locations, there will be an increased demand for these courses, in multiple delivery formats. The candidate will need to participate in our graduate program, teaching new and existing classes, and mentoring graduate students in funded research at both the M.S. and Ph.D. levels. 

Research Expectations
The applied research portfolio of the School of Engineering Technology crosses the disciplines of Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, and Industrial Engineering Technology, with focus areas in materials, robotics and the Internet of Things (IoT), mechatronics, smart and additive manufacturing, energy systems, healthcare technologies, supply chain systems, and entertainment technology. The research focus of the successful candidate is open but is expected to complement these existing strengths through a focus on embedded computing technologies that support intelligent systems. The candidate is expected to generate fundable research in their chosen field, and to sustainably support graduate students.

The candidate is expected to interface with external clients, both commercial and governmental, and to establish relationships with companies looking for ways to engage with our students at all levels from undergraduate to Ph.D. This may take the form of mentoring senior capstone teams as well as graduate research.

Qualifications
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in engineering technology, engineering, computer science, or a related discipline. Candidates must demonstrate effective English-language oral and written communication skills through documented classroom effectiveness or external engagement activities.
