Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice

The School of Engineering Technology at Purdue University invites applications for a full-time appointment at either the Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice level in the area of industrial engineering technology. This position will be at the West Lafayette, Indiana campus.

Teaching Expectations

The Purdue Polytechnic transformation requires faculty with both high technical competence and the ability and desire to teach in active classrooms. This person will be expected to teach students in our Industrial Engineering Technology (IET) degree program. We are looking for candidates with expertise that can include, but is not limited to: ergonomic & human factors, supply chain management (specifically, global transportation & logistics, inventory management, and engineering & technical sales), operations management, and industrial systems design & engineering. Demonstrated expertise in computing in relation to these fields is expected.

In addition to teaching, the candidate will be expected to aid in curriculum development for the industrial engineering technology and supply chain management technology undergraduate majors within the IET program and in concert with the smart manufacturing enterprise system. The candidate may participate in our graduate program.

The candidate is expected to be able to interface with external clients and to establish relationships through our Office of Engagement with companies looking for ways to engage with our students. This may take the form of mentoring senior capstone teams as well as graduate research.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD in engineering technology, engineering, or a related discipline. This position requires the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing for both classroom effectiveness and external engagement. Relevant, recent industrial experience and prior teaching experience must be highlighted in the cover letter. The Professor of Practice position is contractual non-tenure accruing, but renewable, with the position holder having voting faculty status and potential for promotion through established policies.
