Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Learning Innovation

The Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Learning Innovation is a new position that will provide leadership and vision in support of the undergraduate learning transformation currently underway in the college. The Associate Dean will work directly with the Dean of the Polytechnic Institute to develop and execute the transformation plan with the academic department heads, faculty and staff. The Associate Dean will also serve as the coordinator of accrediting activities and initiatives and provide leadership for activities related to student services, student rights and responsibilities, and matters related to the undergraduate curricula in the college. The Associate Dean also serves as the secretary of the Polytechnic Institute faculty, coordinating the operation of the Polytechnic Faculty Senate and matters of governance in the Polytechnic Institute.

The Purdue Polytechnic Institute is one of 10 academic colleges at Purdue University administering undergraduate and graduate degrees. Students can choose from 37 majors in six broad disciplines: Aviation and Transportation Technology, Computer and Information Technology, Computer Graphics Technology, Construction Management Technology, Engineering Technology, and Technology Leadership & Innovation. A new competency‐based education (CBE) degree program starts in fall 2017 that is transdisciplinary and allows students to be active participants in the design of their degree https://polytechnic.purdue.edu/degrees/transdisciplinary‐studies‐technology. The Associate Dean will coordinate the final planning and start‐up of the program.

The college has 6 departments/schools serving over 5,000 graduate and undergraduate students with programs located at 10 communities in the State of Indiana. It is currently going through a major transformational change in the delivery of undergraduate programs and has been designated as one of the Purdue Moves http://www.purdue.edu/purduemoves/.

The Associate Dean should be a thought leader in teaching and learning innovation and capable of leading organizational change. The Associate Dean will work directly with the Department Heads and faculty in their learning innovation and transformation efforts. The Associate Dean must be an advocate for the college and work with the Provost’s Office and other colleges to seek support and approval of curriculum changes and learning innovation.

The Associate Dean will serve as a senior member of the Dean’s leadership team and will report directly to the Dean of the college. The Associate Dean will also represent the college and be a national voice for undergraduate teaching and learning innovation.

Candidates are sought who have a passion for undergraduate teaching and learning and who desire to innovate and transform undergraduate teaching and learning. Excellent administration, communication, and organizational skills will be essential attributes for success as the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Learning Innovation.

Qualifications include an earned doctorate in a STEM discipline, Liberal Arts and Technology, or Education from an accredited institution, a strong record of published scholarship, undergraduate teaching experience, and curriculum and learning innovation. The successful candidate should be able to work with diverse programs and possess a clear understanding of the mission of a land‐grant institution and qualify for the rank of Full Professor with tenure in the Purdue Polytechnic Institute.
