Mechanical Engineering Technology Professor of Practice - Columbus

The School of Engineering Technology at Purdue University invites applications for a full-time appointment at either the Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice level in the area of mechanical engineering technology. Applicants are expected to have at least earned an M.S. in engineering technology, engineering, computer science, or related disciplines. This position will be at the Columbus location.

Teaching Expectations

The Purdue Polytechnic transformation requires faculty with both high technical competence and the ability and desire to teach in active classrooms. We are looking for candidates to teach students in our Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) program with areas of competence in mechanical engineering sciences and process control technologies. Candidates with the ability to adapt this content for students in the mechatronics and robotics majors within the Manufacturing Engineering Technology (MFET) program are desirable. This position will support the growing student population in Columbus as well as the New Albany location. While those two locations are close enough to allow limited travel between sites, this new hire will be expected to use modern distance education technologies to reach multiple locations concurrently.

In addition to teaching, the candidate will be expected to aid in curriculum development for the mechanical engineering technology major and provide technical depth to the MET program.

The candidate is expected to interface with external clients, both commercial and governmental, and to establish relationships with companies looking for ways to engage with our students. This may take the form of mentoring senior capstone teams as well as graduate research.

Qualifications

Applicants must have at least an M.S. in engineering technology, engineering, computer science, or a related discipline. This position requires the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing for both classroom effectiveness and external engagement. People with the proven ability to contribute to an inclusive workplace are particularly encouraged to apply. Relevant, recent industrial experience and prior teaching experience are highly desirable. The Professor of Practice position is contractual non-tenure accruing, but renewable, with the position holder having voting faculty status and potential for promotion through established policies.
