Operations Director

The Operations Director is responsible for numerous functions in support of 50 faculty and 1,350 students at the West Lafayette campus, including:  operations, equipping, set-up, maintenance, and safety/REM of 20 advanced engineering technology instructional labs housing multi-million dollar equipment; supervision of 6 instruction specialists and 2 lab supervisors; management of a $400K capital equipment budget and oversight of purchasing for instructional and research labs; and coordination of facilities planning and space management.  Additionally, the Operations Director is responsible for the functions performed by the school’s student-facing Student Experience Coordinator and the school’s industry-facing Outreach/Engagement Specialist and supervises the daily activities of both.  Finally, the Operations Director is responsible for maintaining standardization of engineering technology instructional lab equipment operations and maintenance at 7 Polytechnic Statewide campuses which support an additional 25+ faculty and 400+ students.   

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering technology, management, education, or related field.  
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in various leadership roles supervising technical staff, managing projects, administering programs, managing budgets, developing and implementing customer or student service programs, or working in other similar areas within industry or higher education. 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered including Master’s and 4 years in the above fields. 
  • Natural tendency to lead by example, with an unquestioned service-minded work ethic
  • Ability to motivate, lead successful teams, and supervise effectively
  • Strong initiative-taker, organizer, problem-solver, and attention-to-detail planner
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient use of personal computers and standard software including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and internet browsers
  • Ability to read, interpret, communicate and adhere to University policies and procedures
