Professor of Practice – Mechanical Engineering Technology – Engineering Mechanics

The School of Engineering Technology at Purdue University invites applications for a full-time appointment at either the Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice level in the area of engineering mechanics. The Professor of Practice position is contractual non-tenure accruing, but renewable, with the position holder having voting faculty status and potential for promotion through established policies. This position will be at the West Lafayette campus.

Teaching Expectations

The School of Engineering Technology resides in Purdue’s Polytechnic Institute (PPI). The PPI uses innovative learning methods, real-world experiences, and industry partnerships to produce graduates uniquely qualified for technology-driven careers. This position requires faculty with both high technical competence and the ability and desire to teach in active classrooms. We are looking for a candidate to teach students in our Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) and related Engineering Technology degree programs. Engineering mechanics is an important part of our engineering technology programs, with applications in mechatronics, robotics, smart manufacturing, and advanced mechanical systems. This position will require the use of modern distance education technologies to reach multiple locations concurrently.

In addition to teaching, the candidate will be expected to aid in curriculum development for the MET program. The candidate may also participate in our graduate program, teaching new and existing graduate classes. Relevant, recent industrial experience or prior teaching experience are highly desirable.

The candidate is expected to interface with external clients to establish relationships with companies that will engage our students at some level. This engagement may develop into mentoring senior capstone teams as well as undergraduate or graduate research.

Qualifications

A minimum of a MS degree is required in mechanical engineering technology, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline. Candidates must demonstrate effective English-language oral and written communication skills through documented classroom effectiveness or external engagement activities.
