Job Description

The School of Engineering Technology at Purdue University has three full-time openings at its West Lafayette, Indiana Campus, beginning no later than August 2017. These positions may be filled either as Assistant or Associate Professors of Practice or as tenure track Assistant or Associate Professors.

Principal Duties

The candidates for these positions will teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses, conduct engagement and/or research, and perform service. The candidates will be required to develop and teach a variety of courses related to robotics, mechatronics, power electronics, automation, and IoT. These positions support the Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering Technology programs.

Tenure track applicants will be expected to develop a vigorous applied research program that complements the existing research of the School as well as the Purdue Robotics Accelerator (robotics.purdue.edu).  Existing research strengths include collaborative robotics, assistive robotics, smart environments for home, healthcare and manufacturing, networked sensing and control, autonomy, and smart materials. Particular relevant expertise in analog, computer, and power applications is noteworthy.

Qualifications

The candidates will also be expected to serve the university community by participating in committees, recruiting activities, student mentoring, engagement efforts with the local industry, developing curricular materials and laboratory experiences in concert with Polytechnic transformation goals, and participating in assessment activities intended to maintain accreditation. Tenure track applicants must have a PhD in engineering technology, engineering, computer science, or a related discipline, while professors of practice must have at least a MS degree.

Relevant, recent industrial experience and prior teaching experience are highly desirable. The Professor of Practice position is contractual non-tenure accruing, but renewable, with the position having a faculty status and potential for promotion through established policies.
