ProSTAR was right fit for Goodfellow's needs, lifestyle

Editor’s Note: Jamie Goodfellow, formerly Jamie Morton, was in our Industrial Technology Cohort 9 from 2007 to 2009.

After receiving my bachelor’s degree, I began working and enrolled in Purdue’s traditional graduate program through the College of Technology. I quickly realized that, while working full-time (with a one-hour commute between cities), taking evening classes throughout the week would not be conducive to my schedule. I also knew I wanted an accelerated program that would provide both me and my employer immediate benefit. My brother, who graduated from the Weekend Master’s Program in 2007, recommended the program, and it became the clear fit for my lifestyle and goals. Although I was initially intimidated by some of the more technical coursework, the professors provided practical, everyday applications that continue to benefit me in my career. Equally as important, learning new technologies has also provided me with the aptitude (and confidence) to seek ways to improve and streamline processes within my organization.

Shortly after graduation, I accepted a position with the Purdue Alumni Association. In my three and a half years here, I have been fortunate enough to have two opportunities for advancement and truly enjoy what I do each day. I am confident that my degree and experience with ProSTAR has been (and will continue to be) a difference maker in my career.

Earning my master’s degree has had an immeasurable impact on my life, both experientially and financially. I’ve made lasting friendships, gained invaluable knowledge and life experience, and am best prepared to excel in today’s work force and technologies.

My advice for current students would simply be to embrace the program fully. Between the knowledge of the faculty and the vast industry experience of your classmates, this can be the most productive 22 months you’ll invest in yourself. In addition to its evident benefits to your career, your degree will become a source of pride, fond memories and fulfilling accomplishments.
