EcoCAR 2 team places 4th

The Purdue EcoMakers EcoCAR 2 team, which has involved several Technology students over the past three years, finished the final year of the three-year competition in fourth place. The national competition involved 15 teams.

Members of Purdue University’s EcoCAR 2 team will complete their three-year competition June 1-12, 2014, at GM's proving grounds in Milford, Michigan, and in Washington, D.C.

The EcoCAR 2: Plugging Into the Future competition kicked off in September 2011 with 15 North American university teams working to design new technologies for implementation in a General Motors-donated vehicle.

EcoCAR 2 team at Year Two Competition

The Purdue EcoCAR 2 team has spent this week in Yuma, Arizona, home of the General Motors Desert Proving Ground, as part of the Year Two Competition. The first week of competition has focused on tests and inspections.  So far, the team has placed second in the Best Modeling and Simulation presentation.

They will move on to San Diego, California, May 19-23 for the second stage of the competition. They will give final presentations from the technical, business and communications teams.

Purdue EcoMakers wins six awards in first year of EcoCAR 2

The Purdue EcoMakers team received six awards during the the EcoCAR 2 Year One Competition in Los Angeles May 18-23, 2012.

The first year of the three-year competition focused on student plans for their advanced vehicle architectures using modeling and simulation. The competing teams participated in a trade show and delivered numerous presentations to judges during the competition.

Purdue EcoCAR 2 team announces architecture

The 15 teams in the EcoCAR 2 competition have unveiled their vehicle designs. Purdue is one of four teams that will use a Parallel through the Road (PTTR) architecture. Purdue's team brings together students from the colleges of Technology and Engineering to convert a General Motors-donated 2012 Chevrolet Malibu into a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. PTTR uses an on-board battery to reduce fuel use. The battery can be recharged using a standard wall outlet. Once the plug-in range of the battery is depleted the vehicle can still operate as a regular hybrid.
