Animation and Visual Effects (CGT)

What made you decide to choose your specific major?

I choose my major because I hope to bring more representation for LGBTQIA+ or people of color in media. Additionally, I have always been passionate about animation, I believe it is the most fluid form of storytelling.

What are a couple of your favorite things about your program of study?

I really enjoy learning about applications I have used previously, but finding new ways to use them in order to create motion. Additionally, I love the people in the major, I have made some really close friends.

What has been one of your favorite class projects?

Obviously, my favorite project would come out of the first animation class I took. It was this journal we kept throughout the semester, and took notes in. Our professor really encouraged us to not only take notes in class but also from the latest animations we watched. Identifying what we learned in class in the media we consumed.

What other activities are you involved in on campus?

I am involved in Women In Technology, the club and the learning community. I love it, we get to speak with women in our respective fields and receive great advice. I am in a couple other clubs those being, Fashion and Retail and the Botany club.

What do you know about your program of study now that you wish someone had told you when you were choosing a major?

I wish someone had told me it isn’t all stem. When applying to schools I was mostly looking at art schools, as I have always been a creative person. I had no idea at Purdue it wouldn’t all be technical. In all the classes I have taken this far, I have been able to use my creativity, in one way or another. Especially in my animation classes, the curriculum ensures you become proficient at art and the basics before entering 3D courses.

What would be one piece of advice for prospective students or new Purdue students?

My advice would be, do not be afraid to ask questions! I started asking around on ways to get into art classes and my wonderful RA, told me about this program called degree plus. Now I have the opportunity to pursue both my passions in the fine arts and animation. An opportunity I would have missed if I hadn’t asked questions.
