Christopher Gammon
Cybersecurity (CIT)

What are a couple of your favorite things about your program of study?

The best thing so far about Cybersecurity and the CNIT department as a whole are the labs. All of my CNIT classes have had a lab associated with them weather they are dealing modeling, computer architecture or programing the labs always help me to learn how to apply the knowledge that I gained from lecture into a real-world scenario.

What has been one of your favorite class projects?

The final project for Introduction to Systems Development (CNIT 180) was a great project that combined all that we had been taught throughout the semester into one comprehensive project.

What other activities are you involved in on campus?

One of my favorite organizations on campus is Purdue’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity. It is great to get involved in the West Lafayette community and meet people from all different types of majors. I am also a member of The Association of Information Technology Professional (AITP).

What do you know about your program of study now that you wish someone had told you when you were choosing a major?

I had always known that Cybersecurity is a growing field, but since coming to Purdue I have started to realize how many options I truly have for my future and how well Purdue is preparing me to take advantage of those options.

What would be one piece of advice for prospective students or new Purdue students?

The best thing that I did was join the Computer and Information Technology Learning Community. I met almost all my friends through this, and it made my transition to college so much easier. I think every incoming student should take advantage of the learning communities that Purdue has to offer.

What made you decide to choose your specific major?

I had always thought about going into Cybersecurity, but when I toured the Polytechnic Institute I was sold on Cybersecurity, because of all the hands-on work you do while earning your degree.
