What made you decide to choose your specific major?
I knew I wanted to go into engineering, I just was never sure what kind. I shadowed an EET in high school and I was immediately intrigued so I went for it.
What are a couple of your favorite things about your program of study?
I absolutely enjoy the hands-on aspect. Learning something in class can be kind of confusing, but when you go to lab and apply it, it clears concepts up almost immediately.
What has been one of your favorite class projects?
In ECET274, we got all semester to build a wireless radio! With antennas, amplifiers and speakers, we were able to directly pull music from radio stations and play them aloud.
What other activities are you involved in on campus?
Boiler Gold Rush Supervisor, Women in Technology Secretary, MTA member
What was something unique about one of your summer internships?
I have been with Allison Transmission since my junior year of high school, and I was lucky enough to intern as different engineering positions to see what I like best.
What do you know about your program of study now that you wish someone had told you when you were choosing a major?
There are going to be days where assignments get the best of you and you are going to contemplate you major. If you’re passionate enough to stay, reach out to professors and upperclassmen for help and advice. It helps you get to the light at the end of the tunnel. A graduate student and a professor who wasn’t one of my own helped me get through my hardest classes.
What would be one piece of advice for prospective students or new Purdue students?
Remember to work hard and play hard. It is easy in college to be tempted to have fun with your newfound freedom, but school is just as important!
