Maria is the Director of Data Analytics for the college. In this capacity, she serves on the dean's leadership team and provides all things data at the college and university level as well as external agencies. Along with her staff, days are spent running various reports and queries, conducting data analyses and reporting findings to various constituents.
Maria graduated from Purdue University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law & Society with minors in Psychology and Organizational Leadership. In 2002 she earned a Master of Science degree in Management from Indiana Wesleyan University. A love of research, data, and writing led her to a position as a researcher for a traffic safety research center for the state of Indiana. It soon became a family joke that the youngest child earned her keep “standing on street corners” (checking for seatbelt use in passing vehicles) and “counting dead people” (compiling traffic fatality statistics). She left all that behind for a 4-year stint in the Division of Financial Aid as the Associate Director of Research, Data Analysis and Fund Management before joining Technology in January 2012.
Maria is married to Dr. Brent Drake, who also works for the university as the Chief Data Officer. Their family includes two grown children, a daughter-in-law, two beautiful granddaughters, a future son-in-law and one very spoiled Chihuahua.
