The Polytechnic's Smart Building Innovation Lab mission is to advance research and education in the next generation building technologies leveraging computational science research in building design, construction, and operations.

Our Research areas include:

  • Smart buildings and Internet of Things (IoT) innovations
  • Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology, standardization, and innovation 
  • Resilient sustainable built environment with the integration of new materials, renewable resources, and Internet of Energy (IoE)
  • Development of algorithms, automated solutions, and systems that optimize building design, construction, and performance and enhance collaboration in design and construction
  • Adaptable environments for human comfort, safety, and wellbeing

The Smart Building Innovation Lab is involved in the development of next-generation Cloud-based Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies and support collaborative interdisciplinary research to develop new solutions for the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations (AECO) industry. The Smart Building Innovation Lab is focused on:

  • Scientific investigations
  • Applied research through collaboration between academia and industry
  • Roadmaps to technology entrepreneurship and innovations
