Chief Flight Instructor (Continuing Lecturer) Position

The School of Aviation and Transportation Technology (ATT) at Purdue University invites applications for a Chief Flight Instructor (Continuing Lecturer) position, to be located on the West Lafayette campus. This position is a fiscal year appointment (12 months). The Aviation and Transportation Technology school houses multiple undergraduate and graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) degree programs designed to prepare graduates to serve in many diverse positions in the discipline. The Professional Pilot Program prepares students to become highly-skilled aviators and future industry leaders.


Individuals should have:

Bachelors of Science degree in Aviation or a closely related field.

An exemplary teaching record, and experience in facilitating activities in areas listed above.


In addition, the candidate must have:

A commercial pilot certificate and current flight instructor’s certificate or an airline transport pilot certificate.
At least a current third class medical.
All flight and instructional experience required by the FAA to act as chief flight instructor for private, commercial, and instrument courses, and as a certified flight instructor in approved part 141 training course outline.



The qualified candidate shall have expertise and experience to qualify as a Chief Flight Instructor under 14 CFR 141. Candidates should have a background and expertise in implementing innovative pedagogical techniques conducive to the contemporary learner. Additionally, the candidate is responsible for facilitating experiential and project base learning activities, assisting in undergraduate capstone activities, and leading activities that provide a global perspective on learning within the appropriate field experiences for students in the program. Preference will be given to candidates who can pair academic excellence with experience working with technology-rich organizations and with the Federal Aviation Administration.
