Group 8 - DER Optimization Program

The DER Optimization Program is sponsored by Eaton and is a software interface that optimizes user specified power systems and identifies the optimal configuration of PV panels and Wind Turbines for the provided site data. The interactive GUI takes the location, load demand, and multiple PV and Wind Turbine configurations and uses a MILP optimization function to output the optimal DER type, quantity, and power distribution in correspondence with two weighted objectives that the user can specify for a higher renewable presence or lower cost. This program then saves all the optimized data to an hourly CSV and provides the user with an output screen demonstrating both numeric and visual outputs of the optimal configuration.

Eaton is a global leader in power manufacturing and is looking for new ways to incorporate DERs into their manufacturing process. A global, interactive solution is required to plan further additions before DER infrastructure is implemented.
