Team 19: Laser Harp

This project is sponsored by:

The School of Engineering Technology (SoET) was approached to design a laser harp system to a current piece of artwork in Co. Cavan, Ireland. Our acting SoET sponsor for this project is Professor James Condron. Joey Burns, the artist of the wooden harp sculpture, wants us to iterate on the previous student group’s prototype of this laser harp system. The laser harp system, upon completion, will be installed into the harp sculpture, and allow a user to play musical notes by breaking the laser beams with their fingers. We are required to produce any  electrical schematics, circuits, and required components lists necessary to define the assembly and functionality of the harp. We are also tasked to create a to-scale replica of the harp here on campus, to fully integrate all of the project parts together and get a working, reliable model.

Problem Statement

The artist would like a solution that provides a minimum of 16 visible laser “strings” for an individual to play.  This will allow for any personnel to play the harp with two diatonic scales. Once an individual breaks a laser’s light beam, the system must
