CGT Student Tips for Success

CGT upperclassmen have shared the following tips for you to find success here on campus. Do you have a tip or strategy to share in the upcoming newsletter? Please share your ideas with Kelsey Spille.

  1. Stay aware of how you schedule your time over the semester and be organized with your classwork. Apps like Google Calendar, Notion, Amazing Marvin, Brightspace tasks, and even sticky notes can help you manage deadlines!
  2. If you start noticing your mental health deteriorating, seek help immediately! Whether that be CAPS, your personal doctor, or your support circle (this can even include your academic advisor or Kelsey), try to tackle the issue as soon as possible.
  3. Join clubs hosting workshops to learn more about new skills, techniques, and platforms. These events can help you develop your portfolio and a chance to meet peers who have similar interests.
  4. Volunteer for national conferences like GDC and ACM SIGGRAPH. Volunteers may get discounted rates to attend and have opportunities to network with industry.
  5. Use the CGT Help Room for a structured study environment. The space helps me get started on the assignments I don't enjoy and I like to go when a TA is there to answer any questions I might have.
