Lafayette location part of $2.2 million Skill UP grant

Purdue Polytechnic Lafayette is one of three educational entities identified to participate in a $2.2 million training program for advanced manufacturing announced in Lafayette March 21.

As part of the Region 4 Skill UP Alliance, Purdue Polytechnic Lafayette will offer coursework and training that will result in an advanced manufacturing standardized work certificate. Organizers of the program hope to enroll at least 450 people to help fill immediate and future manufacturing openings in the Lafayette area and beyond.

Classes are scheduled to begin April 4, with offerings every five weeks until August 2017.

A high school degree or equivalent is required. To find out more about the Skill UP training program, email training@workonecentral.org or call Jenni Mykkanen at 765-807-0887.

"This is a great opportunity for Indiana residents to get hands-on learning in advanced manufacturing, to earn a Purdue Polytechnic certification and apply that learning to a local industry, in a local job," said Steve Shelby, Purdue Polytechnic Lafayette director. "Our goal is to make Lafayette the Silicon Valley of advanced manufacturing."
