NECA stays busy with competitions, engagement

The mission of the Purdue student chapter of National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) is to explore the vast opportunities that exist in the electrical construction industry via its interaction with construction professionals worldwide.

NECA participates in three competitions throughout the year:

They attended a regional ASC competition in Reno, Nev., Feb. 6-9. There, they created an electrical estimate within 24 hours and presented to some of Cupertino’s corporate employees.
The Green Energy Challenge is a semester-long competition where we will be revamping a parking garage on campus to make it as energy efficient as possible.
In the fall we will travel to Washington D.C. to finish the Green Energy Challenge as well as attend the NECA National Convention. To wrap up the year, we will have another ASC Competition in Chicago.
This spring we are looking to host a golf outing for our partners in the electrical industry and possibly merging this event with the MCA organization as well.
This semester we are having companies sponsor our bi-weekly meetings and discuss products that are being used in industry.

In January, members of the NECA and Building Information Modeling (BIM) student clubs visited Eskenazi Hospital (formerly Wishard) construction project in downtown Indianapolis. They were invited by Adam Rude (BS '00), who serves as advisor to Purdue's NECA group and who works for BCM partner in industry ERMCO.  The new hospital has already contracted over $530 million for the new Eskenazi Health. The hospital is in many different stages of construction in both the electrical and general side. For example, some floors had rooms finished yet the finishing floor was not yet started while other floors were just beginning to receive sheetrock. Students who attended were: Zui Mo, Josh Anderson, Tim Doyle, Andrew Adams, Zach Edwards, and Alex Snyder.
