New online engineering technology graduate degree aimed at filling demand for leaders in the field

West Lafayette, Ind. (March 20, 2017) – A new online Purdue University Master of Science in Engineering Technology degree is being offered to help mold effective leaders who can manage innovation and technology, foresee potential problems, and adapt as necessary in a fast-moving workplace. The degree is designed to prepare career advancers in manufacturing, business, and related organizations to make high-impact contributions on complex, collaborative projects in America and across the globe.

Bridging engineering science, technology, and real-world application, the curriculum is for working professionals who have a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, engineering, science, information technology, or business.

“Graduates of our program will be able to manage engineering technologies by using agile strategy to move the organization forward, mine and analyze data, identify cost-effective energy conservation techniques, assess IoT and cybersecurity risks, and lead global teams,” said Duane Dunlap, chair of the School of Engineering Technology’s graduate programs. “These skills are vital for senior and executive positions, from those in industry and research to leaders in solution development, entrepreneurial ventures, or public service.”

The 30-credit program can be completed in under two years online or in five semesters as a part-time student. Graduates of the on-campus program are employed in prominent positions at Fortune 500 companies and other leading businesses, including Tesla Motors, Kimberly-Clark, Johnson & Johnson, Motorola Solutions, and Alcoa. College leaders believe similar success will follow those who complete the online degree.

Purdue’s engineering technology programs are consistently No. 1 in engineering technology enrollment and female graduates, according to the American Society of Engineering Education. The university has also been named one of America’s top 25 public universities (U.S. News & World Report) and the No. 4 university as ranked by recruiters (The Wall Street Journal).
