Purdue charter 'holds great promise for Indy'

Purdue University and Marion County leaders share a common concern: the unacceptably small number of Indianapolis low-income and minority students who have the opportunity to succeed in college. IPS high school SAT scores paint a compelling picture of how ill-prepared this student population is to pursue a college education.

Standing before a room of educators and leaders in Indianapolis last week, Purdue University President Mitch Daniels unabashedly expressed his dismay over the low number of minority and inner-city students enrolled at Purdue. But, in true Mitch Daniels fashion, he was quick to provide a bold solution: The Purdue Polytechnic Indianapolis High School.
