State fair queen copilots flight from Purdue airport

Austin Decker & Becca Lax

Becca Lax, the 59th Indiana State Fair Queen, boarded a Purdue aircraft Wednesday (July 26) for a flight to an appearance at a county fair. What made this flight unique is that Lax was the flight's copilot, not just a passenger. Lax and copilot Austin Decker are both students majoring in professional flight in Purdue Polytechnic's School of Aviation and Transportation Technology.

As part of her responsibilities as state fair queen, Lax travels nearly 6,500 miles to approximately 45 counties during June and July to promote the Indiana State Fair, which takes place August 4-20, 2017. She flew with Decker to her 40th county fair appearance so far.
