Stephen J. Elliott, Ph.D., director of the International Center for Biometric Research (ICBR) at Purdue University, will showcase the center and its work during a segment on NBC’s "Today" show Thursday morning, September 26 (at approximately 7:40 a.m. ET).
Watch the story from the Today show.
Elliott, professor of technology leadership and innovation in the College of Technology and a recently appointed Purdue Polytechnic Institute faculty fellow, talked with reporter Kevin Tibbles about the ways biometric data -- fingerprints, iris, facial and voice recognition, and 3-D motion capture of body movements -- are obtained and used for security access points, consumer electronics security, and business-to-consumer transactions.
Student and faculty researchers with the center have been successful in influencing the national and international conversation surrounding biometrics and its related technologies.
ICBR specializes in testing and evaluation and international standards. Five-week courses are available, and the center has partnered with the college’s Center for Professional Studies (ProSTAR) to offer an online master’s degree focused on biometrics.
