The transformed Polytechnic learning experience produces graduates who not only have deep technical knowledge, applied skills, and experiences in their chosen discipline, but also problem solving, critical thinking, innovation, communication, and leadership skills sought by employers and communities.
As of fall 2017, the college is well on its way to completing its transformation across 10 components of the learning experience.
THEORY-BASED APPLIED LEARNING
Undergraduate courses include learn-by-doing lab sections or 4 weeks or more of in-class lab-like applied learning activities.
TEAM PROJECT-BASED LEARNING
Undergraduate courses include a six-week or more team project-based learning activity.
FACULTY-TO-STUDENT MENTORSHIP
Faculty-to-student mentorship program is offered to second- and third-year students in all six of the college's departments/schools.
MODERNIZED LECTURE METHODS
Undergraduate courses in which faculty, who have completed a professional development program, predominantly use student-centered active learning teaching methods during lecture periods.
INTERNSHIPS
Plans of study include required internships or similar workforce-like activities arranged through corporate partnerships.
INTEGRATED LEARNING-IN-CONTEXT CURRICULUM
Curricula in all years of study feature learning activities that are integrated among multiple courses of the same level (horizontal integration) and among courses of higher and/or lower levels (vertical integration).
GLOBAL/CULTURAL IMMERSIONS
Plans of study include globalization and cultural immersion required learning activities.
COMPETENCY CREDENTIALING
Majors offering competency-based education: Transdisciplinary Studies in Technology and Transdisciplinary Studies in Engineering Technology
SENIOR CAPSTONE PROJECTS
Plans of study include a two-semester senior capstone project that is sponsored or recommended by industry partners.
INTEGRATED HUMANITIES STUDIES
Plans of study that include a curriculum in which humanities/social sciences studies are integrated with technology studies in each year of study.
