Visiting Assistant Professor or Continuing Lecturer (EET/Robotics/Mechatronics)

The School of Engineering Technology at Purdue University has a full-time opening at its New Albany, Indiana campus, beginning in January 2018 or no later than August 2018. This position may be filled as either a Visiting Assistant Professor or as a Continuing Lecturer in the area of digital and power electronics, including application to mechatronics and robotics. It is expected that the person filling this opening will apply for a permanent position at the end of the initial two years.

Principal Duties

The Purdue Polytechnic transformation requires faculty with both high technical competence and the ability and desire to teach using active learning and course delivery in multiple instructional formats. We are looking for candidates to teach students in our Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) program with strengths in the application of digital and power electronics. Candidates must have the ability to adapt this content for students in the mechatronics and robotics majors within the Manufacturing Engineering Technology (MFET) program.

As the EET programs grow at our statewide locations, there will be an increased demand for these courses. A new hire will have some expectation for distance education and limited travel/teaching at both locations: Columbus and New Albany. A Visiting Assistant will be expected to contribute to scholarship, service and mentoring at the location.

Qualifications

Applicants must have an earned doctorate or MS in electrical engineering technology, engineering, computer science, or a related discipline with preference to academic credentials that clearly demonstrate both high technical competence and outstanding teaching. This position requires the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing for both classroom effectiveness and external engagement. People with the proven ability to contribute to an inclusive workplace are particularly encouraged to apply. Relevant, recent industrial experience and prior teaching experience are highly desirable. The determination of Visiting Assistant or Continuing Lecturer will be based on the applicant’s credentials and potential for scholarship of teaching and learning.
