Stryker presented the team with the topic of a new “Smart SIP” device for a surgical robot. This interface plate has the function of maintaining a sterile barrier between the patient and the robot itself. This interface will be able to connect via Wi-Fi and can access information needed in real-time with a chrome browser. This will also be accessible through MATLAB. Stryker specifically asked Purdue students to produce a three-point loading system that can detect the various forces using the three ceramic bearings on the kinematic mounting scheme.
