UX Design (CGT)

What made you decide to choose your specific major?

I have always loved arts and crafts and knew I wanted to do something in tech so when I found UX Design I knew it was the perfect major for me. It incorporates design and art skills, while also focusing on how people interact and think about different things which is very fun!

What are a couple of your favorite things about your program of study?

I love that we get to work with real companies in our Experience studio. It’s really fun to be mentored by the upperclassmen while working to complete a project together! Another great thing is that we don’t have any final exams which makes my finals week a lot less stressful.

What has been one of your favorite class projects?

Last semester, I got the opportunity to redesign my family’s travel business's website. It was a super fun project and my group and I wrote all of the code. There was lots of trial and error because at the beginning we didn’t know much but the final product was very rewarding!

What other activities are you involved in on campus?

I am currently involved at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Center where I teach 4th grade Sunday school (otherwise known as LifeGuides). I also am a member of Boiler Catholic Women and a few other ministries there. I am also a member of Purdue Night Train which is the east coast swing dancing club! You can find me in my free time reading or crocheting in my dorm room.

What do you know about your program of study now that you wish someone had told you when you were choosing a major?

Pick something that you love, not what is going to make the most money. It is important to pick a major that suits your individual skill set and what you want to do in life! If you pick a major you enjoy then your homework will seem more like a fun opportunity than a chore. You will be more motivated too! Also, Purdue has countless majors so make sure to explore them all to find your perfect fit.

What would be one piece of advice for prospective students or new Purdue students?

Don’t stress too much and make sure to take it all in. Purdue has some pretty amazing benefits and opportunities for its students that will encourage you to grow and thrive here. Also going to college can be scary but it is important to trust that it will all work out! You got this!
