Organizational Leadership (TLI)

What made you decide to choose your specific major?

I knew before coming into college that I needed to be in a people-focused field. Organizational Leadership has cultivated the motivational, encouraging, and driven leader I knew I had the potential to be. I love that this major has practical applications to a variety of career fields; I know many different graduates that have jobs in various corporate fields to tech to engineering to athletics and beyond!

What are a couple of your favorite things about your program of study?

One aspect of Organizational Leadership that I love is how people focused it is. Many courses are complied of lessons about how to lead teams, manage projects, conflict management, and critical thinking; just to name a few. I am always meeting and having the opportunity to work alongside new people and broadening my perspectives on not only Purdue, but the world. Another thing I love about Organizational Leadership is the faculty. The professors that I have had the ability to learn under have all genuinely cared about my learning and are personally invested in the betterment of my skills and character. They put in so much effort to make their students feel like they're cared for and that they belong.

What has been one of your favorite class projects?

My favorite class thus far has been TECH120, Design Thinking In Technology. This class is comprised of only group projects throughout the semester. My group and I were able to create a working prototype that we all became increasingly invested in as the semester progressed. We were extremely proud of the end product, and I thoroughly enjoyed the design process in such a collaborative environment.

What other activities are you involved in on campus?

I am a TA for TECH120, as well as a member of Purdue SALT!

What do you know about your program of study now that you wish someone had told you when you were choosing a major?

I wish I had known how collaborative the plan of study is with not only my peers, but also my professors. This major forms a tight community with familiar faces, which I love a lot but did not expect from this program!

What would be one piece of advice for prospective students or new Purdue students?

Being at Purdue, I have realized how important it is to be your true genuine self. You are more than enough and have so many opportunities to succeed. Studying something you genuinely enjoy and have interest in will garner your success not only academically, but also in your professional and personal life. Be open to opportunities that present themselves to you, even if they are out of your comfort zone!
