What made you decide to choose your specific major?
I chose Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) because of the hands-on nature of the program. I took a lot of Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses in high school, and from that, I knew that I would excel better in a program such as MET.
What are a couple of your favorite things about your program of study?
I really enjoy the fact that a lot of my professors have come from working for large companies. It adds a ton of value to my education knowing that I’m learning from people with real-world experience. I also enjoy getting to work alongside my peers in my classes.
What has been one of your favorite class projects?
In MET 245, you spend the entire semester using various different machines to create your very own hammer. From this, I gained hands-on experience with machinery that is used in almost all manufacturing settings.
What other activities are you involved in on campus?
I’m a second-year Resident Assistant (RA) in Shreve Hall and I’m also quite involved in an on-campus ministry called Salt Co.
What do you know about your program of study now that you wish someone had told you when you were choosing a major?
Going into the MET program, I was worried that a lot of employers would look at me differently given my major. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Be confident in your decision. Employers love to hear that you are gaining hands-on experience in your classes.
What would be one piece of advice for prospective students or new Purdue students?
Your time at Purdue is going to fly by. So don’t limit yourself and make the most of it! There are endless opportunities to get involved, whether that be professional organizations or on-campus clubs. If something sparks your interest, try it out (even if you’ve never done it before).
