In what ways did the Polytechnic and/or Purdue help make you uniquely qualified for your new job?
Purdue helped me qualify for my new job by teaching me relevant and important life skills embedded in our courses. The hands-on lab work and high-quality problem-solving assignments and experiences help us to truly put what we learn into practice. We are able to freely collaborate with our peers and ask for guidance from our professors, which prepares us to face real industrial challenges better.
Who would you like to thank as you finish your time at Purdue and start your career?
I would first and foremost like to thank my family (my mom, my dad, and my brother) for giving me the support, encouragement, and guidance I needed throughout my entire life. I would also like to thank my fellow peers whom I’ve interacted with and developed friendships with. The diversity of the student population has made me realize how incredibly unique each and every one of us are and how we are better together. I am thankful for the experiences and memories we have created together. Lastly, I would like to thank my professors who have shared their incredible wealth of knowledge, experience, and words of wisdom in their classes. All of my professors have always had our best interests at heart and want us to succeed.
What specific classes helped prepare you for your new job?
Some courses I found particularly useful are: Systems and Analysis Design Methods, Project Management, Database Fundamentals, Coding classes, Six Sigma, and Business Writing.
If you had a favorite class, project, experience, or professor, what/who was it, and why?
My favorite class has been CNIT 280 - Systems and Analysis Design Methods taught by Dr. Magana. I believe the class is highly applicable to industry, as we are able to help improve systems in businesses, create a prototype along with all its documentation, and use the SCRUM methodology all the while collaborating with others. It is challenging and time consuming, yet rewarding.
I’ve also really enjoyed my Front-End Web Development class, taught by Dr. Li. She teaches us how to build a website from scratch, keeping in mind UI/UX principles, and is overall a great teacher as she is extremely knowledgeable in the field and teaches us all the components of the coding languages in great detail.
