Joseph Miller chose the Polytechnic because the college’s curriculum combined theory with a hands-on approach to learning.
“Growing up, I really liked building items,” says Miller. “After taking Computer Graphics Technology classes, I realized the path for me was a technology path because I could do what I enjoy and have a long career.”
Miller’s roles at Boeing span the company’s commercial, military and space exploration programs. He runs the global deployment of ServiceNow, the IT services management platform.
“My Purdue degrees prepared me in multiple ways, from my technical abilities to my soft skills. They set the foundation to learn the product lifecycle management side and the overlap of design and manufacturing.”
Miller credits several professors for his success at Purdue.
“Going down the virtual product integration path, Dr. Hartman, Dr. Miller and Dr. Connolly provided insight and direction. Because of them, I obtained contract work experience to supplement my studies, help with internships and networking opportunities. A common theme was ‘push yourself.’”
Miller resides in North Charleston, South Carolina, and stays involved with Purdue as Boeing’s IT recruiting representative for the University.
“Several times a year, I support hiring events, attend student mixers, provide classroom talks, oversee résumé reviews and present Boeing scholarships. I want to give back any way that I can.”
