What made you decide to choose your specific major?
I decided on UX Design to make technology more approachable and accessible for people. The emphasis on understanding people and conducting testing within a problem space drew me to this major. UX design focuses on applying learned concepts from research methods to design an experience. Other paths did not have this focus on a personal level, so I was drawn to UX more than other majors.
What are a couple of your favorite things about your program of study?
I really enjoy how close my major is. You get to know the people in your cohort differently by working on projects and spending a lot of time together. With the major's size, you can also form close relationships with your professors. I also enjoy how we get to practice principles we learn for real world problems and projects.
What has been one of your favorite class projects?
My favorite class project so far was to create a sustainability initiative for Expedia. My team worked closely with an Expedia researcher and created a community initiative for travelers to book more sustainable flights.
What other activities are you involved in on campus?
I am involved in the Women in Tech and Purdue UX clubs.
What do you know about your program of study now that you wish someone had told you when you were choosing a major?
I wish someone had told me that it isn’t just about the big tech companies. UX is incredibly broad and can be used in many different fields.
What would be one piece of advice for prospective students or new Purdue students?
I would tell students not to be afraid to do what you want. There are so many different classes and activities at Purdue that you can easily see the different paths you can take. Purdue has a great environment to branch out and discover passions you may not have thought of before!
