UX Design (CGT)

What made you decide to choose your specific major?

From a young age, I have always had an interest in psychology, technology, and art. It wasn’t until I took a UX and Web Development class I found that UX was a great way to combine all of my interests.

What are a couple of your favorite things about your program of study?

I enjoy the hands-on experience that begins as soon as you set foot on campus. Starting the second semester of your freshman year, you start working on projects with clients, providing valuable insights into both UX and soft skill sets.  I also enjoy how close the major is.  You often work with students in varying grade levels, creating a supportive community of UX students and professors that you can reach out to whenever you need help.

What has been one of your favorite class projects?

One memorable class project is from my CGT 141 course, where my team and I designed and developed a responsive recipe website and app using HTML/CSS. The professor and TA were consistently supportive, readily answering any questions that arose in and outside of class.

What other activities are you involved in on campus?

On campus, I am involved in the Purdue Polytechnic Student Council (PSC), where create content promoting PSC events and resources. I am also a part of the UX Design Club, providing me with valuable opportunities to connect with other students interested in UX design.

What do you know about your program of study now that you wish someone had told you when you were choosing a major?

I wish I had known earlier about the versatility of UX design and its applicability across various industries.

What would be one piece of advice for prospective students or new Purdue students?

One piece of advice I would give to prospective or new students is to always embrace new experiences. Get involved on campus by joining clubs and attending events, as you never know what these experiences might lead to.
