Interior architecture (CMT)

I chose interior architecture because I want to be able to provide myself and others with an ideal space that allows them to thrive while also ensuring their comfort and safety in both residential and commercial spaces. A couple of my favorite things about my program of study is that it is versatile and is hands-on by allowing you to hand draw and use technology to make your visions come to life. My favorite class project so far is "Project Bookstore" where we were given the shell of a bookstore/ café and got the chance to create a floor plan from scratch, along with elevations and a fun logo. We were given creative freedom when designing the bookstore, which made it both challenging and nice. Something I wish someone had told me about my program when choosing a major is that interior architecture/design isn't just about picking pretty fabrics and color schemes, it dwells into the psychological and physical effects of how a space can affect a person daily life and how we can manipulate a space in its entirety to make their life easier. One piece of advice I would give to prospective students or new Purdue students is to manage your time wisely and also remember to try to have fun. College can be difficult so make time for yourself to relax and keep up with your self-care.
