Previously funded to work on NDT of welds on transmission gears for automotive application. His research additionally include interests in automobile manufacturing, Motorsports, and Direct part making using two-dimensional barcodes.  He teaches courses in Global Impacts of Technology, Project Management, and Senior Capstone Design.  Dr. Dunlap holds the rank of full professor in the School of Engineering Technology with responsibilities of research and innovation for the Center of Technology Development and is the graduate education chair for the School of  Engineering Technology.  He holds an undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University, a Master of Science from Louisiana State University, and a doctorate from Virginia Tech.  He has had professional opportunities to be a director, department head, associate dean and interim dean during his academic career. Professor Dunlap has served the APLU as co-chair of the CICEP Innovation and Economic Prosperity Universities Working group.
