The purpose of this project is to provide a reliable monitoring solution for pneumatic systems in Amazon Distribution Centers. Pressure leaks within the system lead to hours of downtime for maintenance. The root cause is unknown, so a monitoring solution would be a useful implementation to help the maintenance teams reduce repair times.

The solution would have to be durable to withstand manufacturing environments. It must be able to collect and store data as well as send data to a remote location. The solution must be able to measure between 30psi and 60psi as well as be easily implemented into the existing systems at distribution centers.

For our solution, we used a Motionics wireless pressure gauge to measure pressure values at different locations within the facility. It can measure between 0 and 100 psi, is IP67 rated for dust resistance, and can connect wirelessly via Bluetooth Low Energy. The sensor can connect to a USB receiver and transmit data to a computer with the correct installed software. The connection range can be increased using signal repeaters such as WiFi boosters. The software can then monitor multiple sensors simultaneously and send alerts to a mobile phone when one of the connected sensors fall out of the specified range.
