Group 2 - Wavelight Guide

This project is sponsored by:

The goal of the project is to maximize light transmission using 3D printed materials. Our team aims to direct light from the sun using a geometric model with a larger effective area onto an array of LEDs, with a smaller effective area. We created a 3D-printed models that transfer light through filament strands onto a select location. This project is being conducted to create a better alternative to solar panels. Solar panels were created to turn light into usable energy, but they reflect about 10% and can only convert 15% to 20% of that into electricity. The other 80% to 94% of that energy is converted to heat. Our project aims to convert more of that solar energy into usable energy compared to solar panels.

Problem Statement

Our project seeks to make use of the abundant energy provided through solar light to provide a more cost-effective alternative to solar panels and demonstrate the potential for energy harnessing through LEDs and waveguides.
