Anderson location to help celebrate Manufacturing Day

The Purdue College of Technology at Anderson is one of several local entities who will come together to celebrate Manufacturing Day October 3. They will be joined at the Anderson Innovation Center (1735 W. 53rd St.) by officials from the City of Anderson, the Madison County Education Coalition and Anderson Innovation Center.

“The partnerships that have arisen between our manufacturers and our educators are the key to rebuilding Anderson and growing opportunities for all of our citizens. Manufacturing Day is a fantastic way to recognize Anderson’s manufacturers, new and old, and show students, parents, and educators that manufacturing is a great career path,” said Anderson Mayor Kevin Smith.

Manufacturing Day is a nationwide movement focusing on changing the public perception of manufacturing in the U.S. At the Anderson Innovation Center, local manufacturers and educators will learn the newest trends and career opportunities in the local manufacturing market. Additive manufacturing and 3D printing will be highlighted along with Purdue College of Technology-Anderson’s planned expansion.

“It is great to see the growth of manufacturing in Anderson and east central Indiana. There are many new innovative manufacturers popping up, several of which are partnering with us to find talent or help with a design or engineering project. Manufacturing Day is a great way for us to connect,” said Corey Sharp, director, Purdue College of Technology-Anderson.

Both educators and manufacturers will tour the Anderson Innovation Center where they will meet representatives from TWI-3D Rapid Print and be introduced to their new metals printer.

“This is an excellent opportunity to introduce our educators to the changing face of manufacturing. We look forward not only to this event but also to others that we hope to plan in the near future for teachers and school counselors. We also plan on opening the door for parents and students to see what is happening in the world of global production and what Ivy Tech, Anderson University and Purdue College of Technology can provide locally,” said Mark Finger, executive director of the Madison County Education Coalition.

Leadership and engineering staff from XADS, Go Electric and Stored Energy Solutions will also be on hand to demonstrate some of their newest technologies and innovations.  Manufacturing Day will culminate at 2:30 pm with a celebratory ribbon cutting and grand opening of Hy-Pro Filtration’s new Anderson plant and headquarters, 6810 Layton Road in Anderson.
