Karabiyik Promoted to AAFS Fellow by the American Academy of Forensic Sciences

Umit Karabiyik, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Technology at Purdue Polytechnic, was recently promoted to AAFS Fellow—the highest level of membership within the American Academy of Forensic Sciences—during the 2025 AAFS Annual Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland.

This distinguished title is given to those who have significantly impacted forensic science through research, teaching, professional development, and service. Fellows are a select group of respected and accomplished leaders in their discipline who are actively engaged in the mission of the Academy’s mission.

"I'm deeply honored and humbled to receive this distinguished recognition as a Fellow”, said Karabiyik. It reflects my unwavering commitment to advancing forensic science through impactful research, teaching, and dedicated service. I look forward to continuing to contribute actively to the Academy's important mission and collaborating with esteemed colleagues to shape the future of our discipline."

The AAFS has more than 6,500 members from all 50 U.S. states and 71 countries, organized into 12 sections that span the breadth of forensic disciplines. The organization promotes education, research, and the advancement of forensic practices worldwide.
