Polytechnic alums debut online speaker series

Alumni Speaker Series

Leave it to technology alums to embrace a high-tech version of the traditional alumni speaker series.

The Purdue Technology Alumni Board (PTAB) supports the Purdue Polytechnic Institute by encouraging communication and mutual assistance with the college’s alumni base via programs, educational and professional growth, and networking opportunities. New this year, to complement their traditional get-togethers, PTAB is debuting their online speaker series, hosted monthly through Webex.

The virtual speaker series was the brainchild of Nick Haywood (AS ’04, aeronautical technology; BS ’06, aviation transportation; MBA ’08) and his fellow members of PTAB’s Professional Development committee: Frank Garafolo (BS ’08, computer graphics technology; MS ’10, computer graphics technology), Kim Carlson (BS ’94, organizational leadership), Denis Bershevits (BS ’16, computer and information technology), Joe Lampinen (MS ’15, technology) and Mel’Dre King (BS ’16, industrial engineering technology). The group volunteers their time to brainstorm topics, find presenters and work out the logistics of the series.

“Traditionally, the events we have hosted are in-person and held in the Midwest,” said Haywood. “However, our goal with the online speaker series is to create an event that any of our alumni can participate in, while highlighting all the exciting things our alumni and Polytechnic faculty are working on. We welcome all feedback about the program as we get it off the ground.”
