President's open letter highlights Polytechnic High School

Purdue President Mitch Daniels discusses Purdue Polytechnic High School duirng an October 2016 news conference.

In a wide-ranging open letter to the people of Purdue, President Mitch Daniels focused on the calculated risks the University is undertaking to continue to offer higher education at the highest proven value.

The Purdue Polytechnic High School in Indianapolis is one of six topics Daniels highlighted as possible game changers for the University. He writes, “If our people can make the Indianapolis high school work, each of [the nine Purdue Polytechnic locations in Indiana] could one day be the site of another high school. Imagine a network of such schools, each tailored to the needs of low-income students and to the requirements of today’s economy, creating a pipeline of opportunity for hundreds of future Boilermakers who otherwise would never make it to Purdue. That’s a big risk, but one well worth running.”

The other topics Daniels addresses are academic rigor and integrity; on-campus living; the State Street Development Project, which runs through campus; value beyond the classroom; and controlling the cost of attendance.
