Purdue University and Vincennes University announce partnership in aviation education

Purdue Polytechnic Indianapolis and Vincennes University announced a joint degree program to be offered at the Aviation Technology Center in Indianapolis beginning in fall 2017.

This new partnership in aviation education will provide a direct pathway to a career in aviation for high school students. For those already holding a Vincennes University associate’s degree in aviation technology or flight, the opportunity to complete a bachelor of science degree in aeronautical technology is now available with Purdue Polytechnic Indianapolis.

This joint educational initiative will follow the “2+2” model. Students begin and complete their associate’s degree in aviation flight or maintenance with Vincennes University. Students then transfer to Purdue University’s curriculum at Purdue Polytechnic Indianapolis, where they will complete their bachelor’s degree in aeronautical technology. This degree program will also allow significant savings over a traditional bachelor’s degree program by allowing the completion of both degrees (associates and bachelor’s) at Vincennes University tuition rates.

Utilizing the world-class facilities at the Aviation Technology Center, students will receive hands-on instruction in aeronautical technology and will practice their skills utilizing the same technology utilized in the workplace, including work on actual aircraft. Vincennes University flight students will train in state-of-the-art aircraft and be prepared to enter the aviation job market once their flight certificates are completed.

“The demand for highly trained aviation technicians and pilots has never been greater,” said Mike Gehrich, director of the Aviation Technology Center with Vincennes University. “Our partnership with Purdue University allows Vincennes University students to take the next step in continuing their education, as well as opening the possibilities for graduates to move forward in their careers, thereby supporting the growing aviation industry in Indiana.”
