Kyu Kang, an assistant professor of construction management technology, is a detail-oriented researcher and humble educator who leads by example. Kang's research interests include developing intelligent ways to operate and maintain infrastructure, facilities, and assets through the digital twin of the built environment. His research team:

• Utilizes remote sensing and computer vision technologies with digital crowdsourcing data for facility and asset management,
• Delves ways to motivate and educate the public for better quality data submission,
• Evaluate the quality of submitted data to create a sustainable incentive structure using blockchain technology,
• Updates the digital twin of the built environment up-to-date with evaluated data, and
• Supports operators and maintainers to make smart decisions for their infrastructure, facilities, and assets. 

He has been collaborating with the Indiana Department of Transportation and various international/domestic institutions on research projects, including (1) pavement rehabilitation and preservation, (2) traffic controls and detour routes, (3) charging infrastructure and electrification for electric vehicles, and (4) smart city and infrastructure management.
