Interior Architecture Program

The interior design program leading to the Bachelor of Science in Interior Architecture is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation, www.accredit-id.org, 206 Grandville Avenue, Suite 350, Grand Rapids, MI, 49503.

The CIDA-accredited program prepares students for entry-level interior design practice, for advanced study, and to apply for membership in professional interior design organizations. The Bachelor of Science in Interior Architecture granted by Purdue in Indianapolis meets the educational requirement for eligibility to sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification Examination (NCIDQ Exam). Program Educational Objectives

The educational objectives for the B.S. in Interior Architecture are:

  • Demonstrate technical knowledge and application of the design process.
  • Solve problems that are quantitative in nature.
  • Analyze complex issues and apply sound design methodology in multidisciplinary fields of interior design technology.
  • Practice effective communication skills in, oral, written and visual presentations.

It typically takes a full-time student taking approximately 15 credits per semester four years to complete the degree program.” Students with transfer credit might finish in three to three and a half years, while students taking classes on a part-time basis might take five or more years to graduate.

The following data was collected using institutional records and alumni surveys which were administered 6 months after the class of 2022 graduated. 10 out of 19 alumni responded to the survey.  

Student Attrition and Retention

85.2% of students admitted in the fall of 2022 returned in the fall of 2023, putting attrition at 14.8%.  

Graduation Rates

Of the students graduating in 2023, 62% graduated in 4 years and 34.8% graduated in 5 years.

1 out of 19 students who graduated in 2023 applied for graduate school.  

Job Placement Rates

94.7% of students who graduated in 2023 are employed in interior design or a related profession.
