Early Career Award Criteria

Nominees must:

  • Must be a graduate of a departmental program (AS, BS, MS, or Ph.D.)
  • Must have graduated less than 10 years ago
  • Made early contributions  to their profession
  • Made early contributions  to the department through their active engagement
  • Professional accomplishments show long term promise to being a leader among their peers.

Outstanding Alumni Award Criteria

Nominees must: 

  • Must be a graduate of a departmental program (AS, BS, MS, or Ph.D.)
  • Must have graduated at least 10 years ago
  • Must have consistently interacted with the program (guest lectures, curriculum guidance, student projects, etc…)
  • Made significant / recognized impacts to their profession (academic profession is included)
  • Have shown outstanding career development either through traditional channels or innovative approaches;
  • Has continued involvement and leadership in professional organizations, college alumni association or community activities.

Distinguished Technology Alumni Award Criteria

(nominations may be based on career achievements OR significant contributions to Purdue University/Purdue Polytechnic Institute) – please note this in the "additional comments" section.

Nominees must:

  • Have a degree from Purdue University College of Technology, Purdue Polytechnic Institute, and/or the College of Technology Statewide System (associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate);
  • Have an established career and exhibit high potential for future growth, particularly positions of greater responsibility;
  • Have made exceptional acts of philanthropy to the University, national or world scene; and/or; have a capacity and interest to provide philanthropic support to the department, college, or Purdue
  • Have distinguished themselves through extraordinary achievements in scholarship, their profession, or other creative activities, whether or not they are widely known by the general public; OR
  • Have made outstanding contributions to the welfare and development of Purdue University or the communities of which they are a part

Current faculty and staff of the Purdue Polytechnic and past recipients of an Honorary Doctorate from Purdue are not eligible for nomination.

Nomination Process

  1. Memo from Dean’s Office announcing call for nominations.
  2. Faculty/staff members are identified to sit on committee (with Department Head as lead) to review potential candidates. *outside nominations (OTA/ECA only) are forwarded to department
  3. Committee members are tasked with compiling necessary research that reflects qualifications listed above.
    1. Nominations MUST remain confidential until decision is made by the college selection committee.
    2. If you need to contact the nominee directly, please use the following language:  “Throughout the year, we have many opportunities to nominate our alumni for awards.  I was wondering if I might be able to have a copy of your updated resume for our files?”
  4. Committee meets to discuss potential candidates and select (1-2 nominees to move forward).
  5. Committee fills out nomination form (below) and submits by deadline below.
  6. Alumni award committee meets and reviews nominations and makes recommendation to dean on nominees to move forward
  7. Dean approves
  8. Letter to approved nominees

Nomination Deadline

Nominations for the 2015 Alumni Awards must be submitted no later than September 29, 2014.

List any activities by including year, name of organization, and their role.
