Manufacturing is making a comeback in the U.S. thanks in part to the re-shoring of jobs as well as a slowly healing economy. It is critically important that this nation have a strong manufacturing-based economy if for no other reason than for national security reasons. For example, many computer parts and electronic devices are manufactured in Asia and Europe and no longer in the US.
With this in mind, the College of Technology, with leadership from Dr. Nathan Hartman, has undertaken a college-wide effort to create an advanced manufacturing curriculum that will be a new program unlike any other in the nation. The timeliness of this effort is critical, and a recent Brookings report validates this effort. The report, linked below, and its authors recommend that the nation create 20 Manufacturing Universities and Purdue is one of a few universities to be singled out as having great potential.
