Kelly Orr (MS T’00) has spent a lifetime traveling around the world. She grew up in Connecticut, but she’s traveled in the Middle East, Asia, Europe, South America, and various corners of North America.
When Orr decided to earn a master’s degree, she enrolled in the Purdue College of Technology weekend master's program to study industrial distribution. At the time, she was the only female in the program.
Make a guitar, get interested in STEM
Researchers are betting that high school courses in guitar making are an effective way to encourage 19,000 students to continue studying STEM subjects.
The National Science Foundation agrees, and it has awarded the same group a three-year grant to take their curriculum to technology teachers across the country. The project is titled “LEAD Guitars in STEM.”

"For a lot of these attacks, the intended victim or goal is something bigger than the school," Rogers said. "Obviously schools want to protect their data, but the bigger threat is when they use those networks now to go out and attack a power plant or a stock exchange or an air traffic control systems."
