Linvill presents research on defense microelectronics workforce at Westwood Lecture Series

Purdue Polytechnic’s Jennifer S. Linvill, an assistant professor of technology leadership and innovation, recently highlighted her research on building a career-ready microelectronics engineering workforce at Purdue President Mung Chiang’s Westwood Lecture Series on Sept. 3. Linvill’s presentation, “Scaling Up: Preparing a Career-Ready Defense Microelectronics Engineering Workforce Through Needs Assessments,” focused on her work with Scalable Asymmetric Lifecycle Engagement (SCALE), a Department of Defense-funded initiative designed to develop the next generation of microelectronics engineers to support U.S. national security and economic stability.

Her research examines skills gaps and workforce needs in the microelectronics field, with a particular focus on radiation hardening, a critical area for ensuring the resilience of electronic systems used in defense and space applications. By conducting needs assessments of technical skills and workforce projections, Linvill and her team provide valuable insights to SCALE stakeholders across academia, industry, and government.

As a co-principal investigator on the SCALE production team, Linvill works to bridge the gap between education and industry by ensuring that graduates are equipped with the technical and problem-solving skills needed for careers in defense microelectronics.

A Purdue graduate, Linvill holds a PhD and master’s degree in organizational communication, as well as a bachelor’s degree in law and society. She is a recipient of the John P. Lisack Early-Career Engagement Award and a two-time winner of the Department of Technology Leadership and Innovation’s Outstanding Faculty in Discovery Award. Most recently, she was recognized with a SCALE award from the U.S. Department of Defense for her contributions to SCALE and nanoHUB, an online platform for nanotechnology research and education.
