Andrea Fay Barber-Dansby earned an award after presenting at Purdue’s inaugural Festival of Teaching and Learning, as reported by Andrea Mattingly. Thomas Lucas and Rustin Webster of Purdue Polytechnic in New Albany also received awards—for their science communication podcast and their catapult design challenge resepctively.

The festival, billed as a hands-on teaching expo, was hosted by the John Martinson Honors College’s Blue Sky Teaching and Learning Laboratory. Collaborators included Innovation Hub, the Teaching Academy and the Center for Instructional Excellence.

Barber-Dansby, senior lecturer at Purdue Polytechnic in Anderson, and Lucas, assistant professor of practice at Purdue Polytechnic in New Albany, were two of four faculty members across Purdue who won the Blue Sky Award for Excellence in Interdisciplinary and Inclusive Pedagogy. Webster's award came directly from the Teaching Academy, an award category shared with only one other faculty member.

Emily Allen, the lead organizer of the event and director of the Blue Sky Lab in the John Martinson Honors College, said she’s looking forward to continuing the event as an annual opportunity to showcase excellence in teaching.

“Our main goal was to provide a space for educators to collaborate, innovate and inspire one another, and overwhelmingly positive feedback suggests that we achieved that,” she said. “I’m excited to see how the festival will continue to evolve to further inspire our teaching community.”
